Procrastination vs laziness

This post was triggered by Ben's post on procrastination. He said that
"the word procrastinate is an oxymoron", because the word "lazy" is easier to type than "procrastinate". He believes that "a true procrastinator/lazy person would NOT claim they are procrastinators but just lazy instead".

Well.. I would like to point something out. Laziness and procrastinating are not the same! Wikipedia has a very good article on procrastination.. Linky! Procrastination is the "irrational delay of an intended course of action", often to do something else which is more enjoyable. Laziness, on the other hand, is the desire to do NOTHING. Not later, not ever! Linky!

I say that I'm a procrastinator, because I eventually get down to doing what I have to do. After lots of detours to games, blogs, and watching TV. I don't say I'm lazy 'coz I do want to do stuff, just not that particular thing, which usually is writing an assignment. I don't want to just sit here and stare at the wall.

And in fact, when you're procrastinating, using the word "procrastinate" makes even more sense than using the word "lazy", because it has more letters, taking longer to type, thus causing an even greater delay, which is what procrastination is. ;P

So Ben, if you were truly lazy, you wouldn't say you were lazy. You just wouldn't say anything at all. ;)

The usual..

As you can probably guess by now, I'm supposed to be working on an assignment. :P Biostats this time. It's my worst subject this year.. :( I hate it how they always make us do stuff that they've never taught! Doing my usual procrastination thing now. I blog most when I'm not supposed to!

Spot!

Finally got my druid to level 40! The best part of being level 40 is getting an absolutely gorgeous cat for a mount! I took the spotted frostsabre of course! The normal white tiger one is so common.. And I don't really like the black one. The black nightsabre would be so much prettier if it was actually black and not just dark brown like it is. My boyfriend lent me 80g to buy mine and he got a black one. :P

Daylight savings

Summer daylight savings started today. I wonder who it was that came up with this idea! They must have gone, "Hey! Let's invent something to confound people all over the world two times a year!" :P Lol ok ok.. I understand the reasoning behind it. It's just really funny that everyone gets so confused about it. Even the Australians themselves! And it makes me feel like I've lost one hour of my life..

Gimpy hordies!

It all began with me and my boyfriend levelling our druid and warrior alts in Badlands. As usual, there were tons of horde around. As we were just trying to ding level 40 and then log out to do our school work, we generally left them alone unless they attacked us. So along came a priest and a mage. They were only one or two levels above us, so if they attacked we would probably have a good chance. We ignored them and continued questing, while they just stood there and watched us.

Soon enough, we discovered why. A level 48 warrior, which is con red to my druid, arrived and attacked us. Naturally, out numbered and out levelled, we lost. So my boyfriend brought in his level 60 rogue and pwnt them soundly. He one-shotted each of the cloth casters.. :P

Hoping they would learn their lesson and leave us alone, we continued questing. But no! A level 60 rogue and a level 60 hunter appear! Apparently, they were the main characters of the priest and the mage, as the names of the alts were simliar. But they were so gimpy that my boyfriend's rogue managed to kill them both, together! Three times! Lol..

Well, I guess they got pissed. They called in 2 more reinforcements. So a paladin and a warrior from my guild came to help us. I logged in my mage too, but by the time I'd travelled there, all four of the silly hordies were already eating dirt. :P

The four of us then proceeded to kill them over and over again. Of course, being the little zerglings they are, the horde brought more. But even 4 of us vs 7 of them, they kept dying like fools with 0 deaths on our side. ;) Most of this was thanks to our paladin, of course. On a side note, I love my guild's paladins! They're the only ones I know who actually heal in PvP. :P

Eventually, they all just started to run away and hid in their base. So we logged back into our alts to continue questing. All we ever wanted was just to get like 1 more bubble of xp to 40! I jokingly said in party chat, "Maybe they're forming a raid to kill us! lol.."

Well, I just might be psychic. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a swarm of at least 10 hordies jump out at us! You can guess what happened, I suppose.. :P

So we logged back onto our main characters and asked for more backup from our guild. A couple of guildies turned up and we thrashed them soundly. Again, they turned tail and cowered in their base. By this time, there about 8 of us, and maybe 15+ of them, with more hordies trickling in every minute.

We trapped them in their base and just kept pwning them. Again, I have to say I really love our paladins! Very few of us died at all, even when the warriors and I rushed into the mass of them to ae! The rogues and druid kept stealthing in to 1-shot cloth wearers too! It was hilarious..

After quite awhile, they got more than 30 people and we only had 10. They finally got smart and pushed us back. We scattered and got out of there.. Raid was starting soon anyways too. But it was just so funny how we lasted so long in there! :D Especially with no priests and me as the only mage!

In the end, I got almost 180 honourable kills, and several of my guildies got even more. :P The hordies probably got only 40 at best.. Gimps!

Arrrrrgh..!

I did the laundry yesterday and hung them out on the balcony to dry. So last night, before I went to bed, I was thinking of whether to bring them in. I even went outside to touch the towels to see if they were dry. I remember thinking that they were pretty dry but not quite, so I left them. And this morning, when I woke up, you guessed it! It was raining. Yay! I spent a good 10 minutes whining and punching pillows. Sigh.. :P I knew I should have followed my gut feeling.

Ironic

Life's like that. One moment it's so perfect.. Then shit happens. So.. Live the moment and always appreciate what you already have. :)

Ironic
Alanis Morissette

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It’s a black fly in your chardonnay
It’s a death row pardon two minutes too late
Isn’t it ironic... don’t you think?

Chorus:
It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
Who would’ve thought... it figures

Mr. play it safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
Well isn’t this nice...
And isn’t it ironic... don’t you think?

Repeat chorus

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything’s okay and everything’s going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything’s gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam when you’re already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It’s meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn’t it ironic... don’t you think?
A little too ironic... and yeah I really do think...

Repeat chorus

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out
Helping you out

The 40 Year-old Virgin

Watch it! It's quite hilarious.. :) It could have turned out quite differently if the storyline had fallen into the hands of the wrong directors, but the film turned out really well, not excessively dwindling on the titties and sex bits.

Basically, it's about this 40 year old guy who's still a virgin. Apparently, it "just never happened" for the poor fellow. :( His secret gets uncovered by his co-workers, and at first he gets lots of ribbing for it. But then they all decide to help him get laid, and the hilarity begins. ;P Things get even more complicated when he starts to fall for the lady who sells stuff on eBay..

Highlight of the show: The poor guy gets his incredibly hairy chest waxed. And according to numerous sources, the waxing was real, as was the blood on his shirt in the scene afterward.. Ouch. > <;

Ecology report

Oh dear.. I pulled the usual procrastination stunt, and this time I'm actually regretting it some. :P I handed up a 1.5k word limit report with only a 1.1k word count. And it's worth 20%! Well ok.. 16%, 'coz 4% is already accounted for in the graphs which have already been marked. But it's just that what I had written was quite good (at least to me ;P), and I know I could have added more if I had more time. Oh well.. What's done is done! No point fretting over it anymore!

Another Friday goes by..

Was so exhausted yesterday, after waking up at 6:30am to visit the wallabies in the morning. Then the Blackwing Lair raid dragged on till late, as usual. :P So I only woke up at about 12 noon today. Oink! Today being Friday that is.. I'm still up after yet another BWL raid, which was unfortunately unsuccessful. More about that later. ;) So anyways, I missed my Biostats lecture (again!) and also the seminar on getting an honors degree. Yup, I'm being rather optimistic hoping I can get into an honors program, but hey! Aim for the stars, right? ;)

I finally managed to drag myself out of bed and go for my Animal Structure and Function practical. But the usual tutor (who's kinda cute) wasn't there today, so another tutor covered for him. 'Coz most of this practical is drawing stuff, he would usually draw up an example on the board and label it. But today, we were just told to draw the stuff ourselves, and then later she would just give us the names of the structures. So I was kinda lost. I didn't know where to start! Should I do a lateral view? Ventral? Dorsal? Arrrrgh! My eraser got a workout.

Came home to do the BWL raid after that stressful practical session. We had planned to at least kill the two bosses that we'd downed last week, and go on further. Unfortunately, we got stuck on the Broodlord. Yes, I know that I said he was easy-peasy! But he got tweaked a little in the recent patch, so he hits a whole lot harder now. But the real problem today was the weird way the tanks kept losing aggro. Also, I mentioned before that we have to fight through the rooms full of dragonkin and whelps. Each time we failed to kill the Broodlord, we had to fight through again! How tedious.. We finally gave up after almost 5 hours and multiple wipes.

Sigh.. Oh well! Bedtime now, have to wake up early again tomorrow to let the real estate agent in! The owner of the place we're renting wants to sell. I hope another investor buys so that there will be a chance I won't have to move out! :D

Linky to a website dedicated to all those weird questions that ever popped into your head. There are a few that I actually know the right answer to, but most of it is quite funny. And it does make you wonder. ;)

A few choice picks..

"If an atheist goes to court, do they make him swear on the Bible?"
"What would happen if you asked a genie, 'I wish you would not grant me this wish'?"

Wallace & Gromit

Watched Wallace & Gromit - Curse of the Were-rabbit last night! I absolutely LOVE the understated humour. It's the kind of comedy where there are levels and levels.. Some of the jokes are very obvious, some you actually have to open your eyes and listen carefully to get. Lots of puns as well as disguised references to other movies, books and places. Highly entertaining for all ages. ;)

The Living Years

The lyrics of this song are really quite touching.. And it's a reminder to say what you need to say, before it's too late.

The Living Years
Mike & the Mechanics

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that I’m a prisoner
To all my father held so dear
I know that I’m a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I’m afraid that’s all we’ve got

You say you just don’t see it
He says it’s perfect sense
You just can’t get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It’s the bitterness that lasts

So don’t yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don’t give up, and don’t give in
You may just be ok

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

I wasn’t there that morning
When my father passed away
I didn’t get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I’m sure I heard his echo
In my baby’s new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It’s too late when we die
To admit we don’t see eye to eye

Serenity

Beautiful. Based on the TV series Firefly, it's a lovely blend of high tech sci-fi, olden Westerns and ancient Oriental traditions. If you liked the series, you'll LOVE Serenity. Even though Summer Glau, the actress who played the main character River, looks rather freaky. :P

Broodlord squished!

Once we got to him, he was a real softie. In order to reach Broodlord, the third big baddie in Blackwing Lair, we had to fight through two rooms of dragonkin, orcs and whelplings. The tough part is that the whelplings respawn continuously, so the warlocks and mages (that's me!) have to keep casting ae spells to keep killing them. We killed him on the first try! :D

Muse of Art

Recently finished reading the book Muse of Art. It is the 4th addition to the Geodyssey collection by Piers Anthony. Each of the books follow a group of people through Earth's history, basing fiction on facts, with real places and events. In the concluding chapters, each of the books gives a glimpse into the future - possibilties of what may be. The endings are rather disturbing, mostly because of Anthony makes them so plausible. You can actually imagine it happening. In one of the books, humans resort to cannibalism, in this book it ends in World War 3. And of course, the most devastating weapons in WW3 will be biological.

The series carries with it a message - Earth is being destroyed, by us. And yet, there is still hope. In each of the catastrophic endings, humans survive with a second chance. Maybe, they will do Earth right the second time round. There is always hope..

Finally Friday!

Dissected an earthworm today in Animal Stucture and Function class, was kinda gross but at least it wasn't as bad as the snail. Even when i accidentally squeezed it and water and stuff came out the.. umm.. "back end". :P I think having the class on Friday afternoons can partly explain why everyone seems to finish their dissection so fast. Every week me and my boyfriend are the last ones out the door.. And I didn't even finish my drawings! But everyone had left already so I was embarassed to stay longer. *^^*

Vael down!

Yay! Another morale boosting landmark kill for my guild in WoW.. I wasn't there though.. Because my computer went kaboom, I wasn't rostered for any of the raids.. :( But I was there in spirit! I watched the fight over my boyfriend's shoulder. :P

Took my Biostatistics test this morning.. Sigh! Won't get a big 0, but might probably fail still. :( If they could have given more time I might have been able to do better.. I spent too much time trying to figure out how to use the tables. I did all the questions 'till the part where you have to check the t-tables and F-tables and all that nonsense, and then I got stuck there. I know that I know how to do it, I just couldn't remember! So I couldn't make the conclusions.. I think it will be funny for the person marking the paper.. :P

I'm.. errr.. back, again!

For lack of imagination, I ended up with the same title for my post again. :P This time, it's really my computer that's back. For once, the service here was quick and efficient! He even got it done before the deadline! I'm so amazed.. Usually they take like 2 weeks to get ANYTHING done around here. Got a new power supply, cost me $200! But the worst part was they charged $80 for service! Sheesh.. I guess that's why it was so fast, eh?
